Listening Enriches

Listening Enriches

Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.
Proverbs 12:11 (NLT)

In the Christian life, growth does not happen by accident, but by intention. God calls us to cultivate our spiritual life with diligence, attention, and obedience. Listening to God’s voice, receiving wise counsel, and paying attention to sound teaching are part of working the “land” He has entrusted to us. When we learn to listen correctly, our life is enriched with spiritual fruit, wisdom, and purpose.
• Listening is part of cultivating our spiritual life
Just as a farmer works his land to produce food, we must work on our heart. Listening to God’s Word, preaching, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit prepares our inner being to produce fruit. A person who does not listen cannot grow, because growth begins with a willingness to learn.
• Listening protects us from chasing emptiness
The verse warns about chasing fantasies. When we do not listen to God or wise counsel, we can invest time and energy in things that have no eternal value. Listening helps us discern what truly matters and prevents us from wasting our life on what is superficial.
• Listening requires humility
To truly listen, we must recognize that we do not know everything. Pride blocks learning, but humility opens the door to growth. God blesses those who have a teachable heart, because they are willing to receive direction and correction.
• Listening produces abundance in our life
The promise is clear: those who work their land will have abundant food. This speaks not only of physical provision, but also of spiritual abundance: peace, wisdom, maturity, and purpose. Listening to God enriches our life from the inside out.
• Listening prepares us to bless others
When we listen and grow, not only are we blessed, but we also become instruments of blessing to others. A life that listens to God has something valuable to offer, because it is filled with His truth.
God desires for us to live a fruitful life, but that begins with a heart willing to listen. Every time we pay attention to His voice and apply His teaching, we are cultivating a life rich in purpose and blessing. Do not chase what does not edify; dedicate your life to listening and obeying, because that is where true abundance is found.

Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.
Proverbs 12:11 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. Am I dedicating time each day to listen to God’s voice through His Word?
  2. Are there distractions or “fantasies” that are pulling me away from true spiritual growth?
  3. What concrete action can I take today to cultivate my spiritual life with greater diligence?
