The Right Attitude in a Connection Group
Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
Romans 12:16 (NLT)
Nothing affects the dynamic of a Connection Group faster than an attitude of pride. When someone behaves as if they know everything, conversation shuts down and growth stops. A small group is not a stage to impress, but a space to learn, grow, and walk together with a humble heart before God and others.
- Humility creates a healthy environment for growth
Arriving with a learning attitude opens the door to spiritual growth. Humility allows us to receive, listen, and be teachable, which is essential for a group to function well. - We are not in the group to show off, but to learn
Very few people are biblical scholars. Most of us are ordinary people who desire to follow God more faithfully. Recognizing this helps us walk with simplicity and grace. - God gives grace to the humble
The Bible teaches that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humility makes us pliable, and a pliable heart is one God can shape and use. - Everyone has something to teach us
Each person in the group has unique life experiences. Regardless of age, education level, or time in the faith, God has taught something to everyone through their journey. Our task is to learn how to ask good questions and listen attentively. - The group helps us let go of selfishness
Committing to a Connection Group means genuinely caring about the lives of others. Practicing humility helps us lay aside egocentrism and honor others above ourselves.
When we attend a group with the right attitude, we set aside ego, listen more than we speak, and show genuine interest in others. In that environment, God teaches us, shapes us, and helps us grow through the lives around us.
Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

Think About It:
- What attitude do you usually bring when you participate in your Connection Group?
- Who could you listen to more carefully and learn from this week?
- What habit can you change to practice greater humility and listen more attentively?
