Alive and Dead
“He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague stopped.”
Numbers 16:48 (NLT)
In the desert, Aaron stood between the living and the dead to stop the plague that was destroying the people. That priestly act carries a powerful message for us today. We live in a world divided between those who have life in Christ and those who still remain in spiritual death. Just as Aaron became a bridge of intercession, we are also called to stand in the middle to stop the destruction and bring those who do not know the Lord closer to eternal life.
- Spiritually alive and dead
The Bible teaches that those who have received Christ have abundant life, while those who have not are dead in their trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1). This is not a physical condition but a spiritual one. Our mission is to bring the “spiritually dead” to the life that only Jesus can give. - A bridge between two realities
Standing “between the living and the dead” means being a bridge. Just as Aaron interceded for the people, we must intercede in prayer and share our faith with those who do not yet know the Lord. Being a bridge means loving enough to step out of our comfort and extend a hand to the needy. - The plagues of the modern world
Today there are plagues that destroy families and communities: hopelessness, materialism, violence, addictions, emotional and physical illnesses, abuse of authority, marital conflicts, and financial struggles. These are modern expressions of the same spiritual death that devastates so many homes. - The responsibility of the church
Just as Aaron risked himself by standing in the middle, the church must be on the front lines, being light and hope. We are not called to judge those who are “dead” but to build bridges of mercy so they may know the only one who can give them life: Jesus Christ. - Can God count on me?
The key question is personal: Am I willing to be that bridge? Am I willing to intercede, share my faith, love my neighbor, and work so that others may pass from death to life?
“He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague stopped.”

Think About It:
- Am I living as someone truly “alive in Christ,” or are there areas in me that need spiritual resurrection?
- What practical actions can I take to be a bridge between those who already know God and those who are still far from Him?
- Which of the “modern plagues” must I confront in my environment so that others may find life in Jesus?
