Detained – Part 1
“Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying,”
Jeremiah 33:1 NKJV
As I read this passage, I reflect on how God sometimes allows us to be stopped so we can hear His instructions and messages. Jeremiah was physically detained, yet even in that condition, God spoke to him. Though the enemy may try to stop us spiritually or emotionally, God can use those moments for our good, deepening our relationship with Him.
- God speaks in times of stillness
Many times, we are so busy running from one place to another that we don’t take time to listen to God. We get distracted by routine, work, entertainment, and daily worries, forgetting to pause in His presence. - The enemy may try to stop us, but God turns that pause into a blessing
Sometimes, the enemy seeks to “stop us” through problems, illnesses, discouragement, or crises. However, God is an expert in making everything work for good (Romans 8:28), using those moments to speak to us and strengthen our faith. - Being stopped is not always bad; it can be an opportunity to grow
Jeremiah received a message from God while he was detained. In the same way, during our moments of pause, we can receive revelation, direction, and spiritual strength. - We can choose to stop voluntarily
We don’t have to wait for something to forcefully stop us. We can choose to take pauses in our daily lives to seek God intentionally. When we stop to pray, meditate on His Word, and listen to His voice, we align ourselves with His purpose.

Think About It:
• Have you felt “stopped” in any area of your life? Could this be a time God wants to use to speak to you?
• What distractions do you need to eliminate to take voluntary pauses and listen to God?
• How can you use moments of stillness to develop greater intimacy with God?
