He Took the Risk
Joseph of Arimathea took a risk and went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. (Joseph was an honored member of the high council, and he was waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.)
Mark 15:43 (NLT)
The death of Jesus shook not only the spiritual realm but also the hearts of all who had followed Him—whether closely or from afar. In the midst of fear, confusion, and persecution, a man named Joseph of Arimathea made a bold and risky decision: he went directly to the Roman governor to ask for the body of the Master. This was neither a simple nor safe action. Joseph was exposing his faith, his position, and even his life, but he did it, driven by deep conviction and a living hope in the Kingdom of God.
Taking risks does not always mean acting recklessly; sometimes it is an act of faith, obedience, and deep love. There are moments when God calls us to take steps that seem uncertain but bring healing, restoration, and victory—both for ourselves and for others. Joseph made a courageous decision that played a key role in the fulfillment of prophecy. His example teaches us that some risks are worth taking.
1. Taking Risks Means Acting by Faith, Not by Certainty
Joseph of Arimathea had no guarantee that Pilate would grant him Jesus’ body. His request could have been denied—or even punished. But he took the risk because he had faith. Faith does not wait for perfect conditions; it acts even in the face of uncertainty. What moves a believer is not human security, but trust in God.
2. Taking Risks Can Be the Beginning of a Miracle
Every decision made in obedience to God can open doors we never imagined. Joseph didn’t know his action would fulfill the prophecy regarding Jesus’ burial. In the same way, our risky decisions may be part of God’s divine plan to heal, restore, or bring freedom to situations that seem hopeless.
3. Taking Risks Requires Leaving Our Comfort Zone
Joseph was an honorable man, a respected member of the high council. He held a prominent position, but he chose not to remain silent. Many prefer not to jeopardize their status or reputation, but those who truly love Christ are willing to leave comfort behind for the sake of the Gospel. Risk is the price of obedience.
4. Taking Risks Is Asking with Humility but Boldness
There are blessings we don’t receive simply because we don’t dare to ask. Joseph went to Pilate and asked. What if he hadn’t? What if he had only wished in silence? Jesus Himself taught: “Keep on asking, and you will receive… keep on knocking, and the door will be opened.” God honors those who dare to ask.
5. Taking Risks Heals the Soul
The risky decisions we take in obedience to God bring healing. They heal our emotions, restore relationships, strengthen our faith, and connect us to divine purpose. Every risk taken out of love for God transforms something within us.
6. We All Face Decisions That Require Risk
Believing, forgiving, loving, serving, asking for help, confessing a mistake, trying again… these are healing decisions, but they can also be frightening. Yet, if we dare to take them with God’s guidance, we will see eternal fruit.

Think About It:
• What decision am I postponing out of fear of rejection or failure?
• Am I willing to step out of my comfort zone in order to obey God?
• What healing outcome might come from the risk God is calling me to take today?
