I am not an idolizer

I AM NOT AN IDOLIZER

“People who worship idols are stupid and foolish. The things they worship are made of wood!” (Jeremiah 10:8 NLT).

We need to remember that an idol is anything or anyone that is taking God’s place in our lives. Therefore, there are idols made of different material, for instance:

– Flesh and blood, when someone idolizes their boyfriend dedicating more time to them than God.
– Paper, when someone loves and serves money, which is made of paper more than God.
– Metal, when someone cares more for their motorcycle or car rather than their relationship with God.

Nowadays, people idolize their possessions, people, philosophies, artists, their girlfriends, or their motorcycle and they’re not even aware of it. Some are living with the sole purpose to become famous, obtain power or money. There are others who only dedicate themselves to accumulating more and more money, and they don’t know when enough is enough. They’re obsessed with money, and they’re always asking “Is there any more?”. People idolize the things they dedicate the most effort, strength and time toward without realizing it’s all only temporary.

“Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed” (Jeremiah 10:15 NLT).

Many people waste their life seeking fame, power and wealth, thinking that this will bring them peace and security, but the Bible has something to say about this:

“This is what the Lord says: Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth…” (Jeremiah 9:23-24 NLT).

We cannot allow anything nor anyone to become more important than God in our hearts, or else we will become idolizers. Begin to treasure your relationship with God above other things, and then you will have eternal security and peace.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33 NIV).

Think about it:

Can you think of something or someone in your life that could be taking God’s place in your heart?
How can you better your relationship with God today?
